Apex Carols by Candlelight in Albany a fitting mixture of traditional festive cheer and coronavirus compromise

Albany’s 68th annual Apex Carols by Candlelight was a fitting mixture of traditional festive cheer and coronavirus compromise. There was a sign-in point at the gate, an attendance cap of 800 people and a giant bottle of hand sanitiser symbolising 2020. But despite the changes and the lack of Santa, Alison Hartman Gardens was still full of Christmas spirit on Saturday night. Mrs Claus made an appearance, apologising to families for the absence of her famous husband. She said Santa was being cautious because he wanted to make sure he was healthy enough to deliver presents. That explanation seemed to satisfy the children, who danced the night away to a collection of popular Christmas carols. Here are our photos.
