Annual Albany Boardriders Girls Surf Camp returns to Bremer Bay for 21st year

More than 40 women and girls participated in the annual Albany Boardriders Girls Surf Camp in Bremer Bay on the long weekend. From September 21 to 23, 46 budding surfers took to the south coast waves, enjoying blue skies and rideable waves over the two-and-a-half days. The attendees — who ranged from 10 to 35 years old — learnt everything from how to pop-up to surf etiquette over five coaching sessions for all abilities with Surfing WA presenting a Surf Rescue 365 course. Camp organiser Rebecca Mitchell said the camp brings joy to the participants, their families, and the coaches. “The weekend was full of laughter, friendship and great vibes, and our hearts were overflowing on the last day,” she said. “I wish I could bottle up all the happiness and keep it forever.” Ms Mitchell said the highlight was seeubg the women and girls create stronger friendships and surfing memories. “Throughout the weekend, you can see the confidence in the women and girls grow as they are challenged by the coaches and improve their surfing abilities,” she said. “My hope is that the Girls Surf Camp model will be offered to other women and girls all over WA and beyond.” Now in its 21st year, the annual surf camp aims to create a safe, secure, and positive environment for women and girls to practice their surfing abilities.
