A capacity field will contest the annual Albany Badminton Tournament at the Albany PCYC this weekend.

Amity Badminton Club, which has about 17 members, will host the tournament on Saturday and Sunday featuring both men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles games with players from all over the State making the trip down.

A capacity field of 48 players has registered and will be split into eight teams of six, three ladies and three men in each team.

Players from Albany, Denmark, Manjimup, Pemberton, Bunbury, Narrogin, Mandurah and Kalgoorlie will take part.

Event organiser Jessie Coad said everyone was looking forward to competitive badminton.

“After such a frustrating period in the past few months for everyone, missing out on sport has been hard,” she said.

“Being involved in such a responsible community, we are lucky enough to hold our Albany Tournament on the original weekend it was due to be held and bring all of our regular players from around WA down to Albany to participate in our annual tournament.

“We are again supporting Ryan's Restaurant and the Ace Motor Inn with our badminton dinner, and accommodation for players who are travelling.”

Games will consist of eight minutes with the team with the most points at the end of the weekend awarded prizes.
