As part of the planned 2026 bicentenary celebrations, the City of Albany has held an amateur photography competition.

The City’s aim was to find photos that illustrate how Albany has grown over the past 200 years.

The competition has now closed, with the winners in each category announced on the City’s Facebook page this week.

Winners received a $200 gift voucher to an Albany-based business of their choice.

Runners-up and people’s choice winners also received $100 each, with a prize of a $50 voucher for primary school-aged competitors.

The Albany culture and heritage category was won by Alexandria Hammer, who also won the people’s choice award for that category.

The runner-up was Andrea Greeve with a landscape of the Albany fish traps.

The community spirit category was won by Lex Porebski with his image of Anzac Day attendees in the pouring rain atop Mt Clarence.

Porebski also won the people’s choice award, while Katie Griffiths was the runner-up.

Griffiths said she was not expecting to win at all.

“I was quite excited to see my name pop up on Facebook,” she said.

Brad Donaldson won the homegrown vibrancy category, with Jamie Kiddle the runner-up and the people’s choice winner.

The last category announced was natural beauty and environment, which was won by Andrea Greeve with a picture of a stunning sunset on Muttonbird beach.

Indra Geidans was the runner-up and Jamie Kiddle won the people’s choice award.

“It’s good to see photos highlighting what Albany has to offer under the water,” said Kiddle, whose photos of Albany’s underwater landscapes won two people’s choice awards and a runner-up place.

Community spirit winner Porebski said he was pleased his photo won in its category.

“Who doesn’t like winning?” he said.
