Bethel Christian School marked a milestone last week, with past and present students coming together to celebrate 40 years of history.

From humble beginnings in 1981 with a class of 22 students, the school has grown to 450 students, and it bade farewell to its first graduating Year 12 class last year.

Principal Mim Butler said she hoped to see the school continue to grow over the next 40 years with hopes of establishing a specialised senior secondary area.

Ms Butler said the school aimed to nurture and support every student.

“I would just hope that we are instilling in them honesty and love for each other and treating each other right and with kindness,” she said.

“We are a Christian school so we like to share our love of God.

“We treat our students as individuals so they have pathways when they get to Year 11 and 12 and we can get them to where they want to go and the jobs they want to be in.”

To mark the occasion, students enjoyed a performance by Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, and opened their time capsule last Friday.

The school rounded out the 40th anniversary celebrations with an art exhibition, a jazz music night and a family barbecue over the weekend.
