The State Government has opened a tender for the proposed wave energy farm set to be constructed off the coast of Albany.

The McGowan Government pledged $19.5 million to develop infrastructure associated with the project and help setup the Wave Energy Centre of Excellence.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the tender proposal indicated progress within the project.

"The tender for development of wave energy technology is a solid step forward,” she said.

"Renewables are a 21st century industry and we want Albany and Western Australia to be at the forefront of innovation and technology development in this sector; we want to be technology makers, not takers."

The tender proposal will be available until August 18 on Tenders WA.
