Albany trainer Steve Wolfe made a successful trip to Northam last Thursday with both his runners recording victories.

Three-year-old debutants River Rubicon and Let’sdeal enjoyed promising starts.

However it didn’t all go smoothly for Wolfe and connections with River Rubicon, ridden by Shaun McGruddy, claiming victory with a successful protest after crossing the line in second place.

River Rubicon settled third in running and was winding up in the home straight but jockey Shaun McGruddy had to ease him off the heels of Sally Can Wait who shifted inwards in the final 200m.

McGruddy and River Rubicon shifted outwards and raced tightly with Sally Can Wait over the final stages, going down by a head before the upheld protest handing the Albany galloper victory in his first-ever start.

Let’sdeal made it a race-to-race double for Wolfe after a slashing debut victory.

Much the same as his stablemate, Let’sdeal settled just off the leaders but sprinted past his rivals effortlessly and went on to win by 3.9 lengths in a commanding performance with McGruddy in the saddle.
