A newly formed Albany women’s soccer team beat one of Perth’s top women’s soccer sides in a friendly in Albany on Sunday.

The Great Southern Soccer All Stars comprised players from Albany and Denmark and used a gutsy first-half effort to down Subiaco City 3-0.

Subiaco play in the Women’s State League division 1 in Perth but could not take advantage of a stiff breeze in the first half.

Steph Grant managed two goals for the All Stars in the opening half to give the home side a handy two-goal buffer going into the second half.

Captain Laura Hunt was able to ice the cake in the second half as the All Stars finished with a comfortable 3-0 win.

“They played really well as a team and all the girls put in,” he said. “The game was played in good spirit and it was very skilful.

“The match ran so well that Subiaco have invited us up to Perth for a game and we’re hoping to involve Bunbury too.”
