Albany Show and Shine shifts into high gear for another year
Military vehicles and drag cars will be among more than 140 vehicles at the 2022 Albany Shown and Shine this weekend at the Albany Agricultural Society pavilions.
The annual event, hosted by the Great Southern Street Machine Association, is in its 26th year, with many car enthusiasts to travel from Perth for the show.
A World War II half-track truck and M75 armoured personnel carrier — both described as being in “absolutely pristine condition” — are among the vehicles organisers expect few in Albany to have seen.
Event co-ordinator Christine Sargent said there would be plenty happening at Centennial Park pavilions on Sunday to keep the whole family entertained.
“Volunteer fire and rescue will be cutting up a car and letting off air bags, and we’ll be firing up the 2000hp drag car a couple of times as well,” she said.
“Rocker cover racing will be done about 1pm, there’ll be tyre-changing timing, a maze for the kids to go through and lots of lawn games as well.”
Market stalls, food vendors, a petting zoo and a colouring in competition will also run throughout the day.
On Saturday, vehicles will depart from the pavilions for the annual Supercruise Poker Run around Albany.
The participants will make five stops to collect playing cards along the way in the hope of piecing together a winning poker hand.
Entry is $10 per person with entry free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
The pavilions will be open from 10am to 3pm.
