Police are investigating how a car slammed into a concrete power pole, bringing down power lines and closing a section of Princess Royal Drive on Saturday night. Emergency services were called to Princess Royal Drive about 10.45pm, where they found live power lines across the road west of Bolt Terrace. There was a power pole lying in front of a white Holden Commodore which had sustained significant front-end damage. A young man, believed to be the driver, was under police watch in a nearby carpark. Police say the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not injured in the crash. Albany police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Hugh Letessier said the crash caused extensive infrastructure damage. “The car has lost control and hit a large power pole and transformer,” Sen. Sgt Letessier said. “The driver was located by police at the scene and he is helping police with our inquiries.” Western Power and emergency services removed the power lines and cleared the road of debris before it was re-opened hours later. Less than 1km away on the same stretch of road, a metal light pole was lying flat on the median strip, with police nearby. Police would not confirm if the damaged light pole was related to the nearby crash.
