Albany teenager and Pararoos star Connor Bunce got on the scoresheet after a brilliant solo run opened the scores against the US in Australia’s 5-1 defeat at the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football World Cup on Saturday.

Bunce is making his World Cup debut for the Pararoos and was part of the Australia side that opened their account with a 2-0 loss to Iran on Thursday.

In their second match, Bunce received the ball behind the half-way line and quickly turned to face goal before going on a remarkable run, covering half the length of the pitch while leaving the American midfielders in his wake.

The Polonia junior skipped past the last defender, opening up an angle for a scintillating left-foot strike that fizzed past the goalkeeper and found the back of the net.

American Shea Hammond levelled the scores with a strike minutes after Bunce’s opener and both teams went into half-time locked at 1-1.

Four second-half goals from the US put the game beyond any doubt as the Pararoos slipped to their second defeat of the tournament.

The Pararoos face Canada on Tuesday at 6.30pm WA time.
