Albany pair in bid for multiple WA titles
Albany duo Aydan Trewern and Steve Beres will look to join select company this Saturday as they vie to become multiple winners of the WA Modified Sedan Title when the 2016-17 edition is contested in Mt Barker.
Daylight venue Les Gorman Park will play host to this season’s title, which has become a one-day event and has attracted a small field of 14 competitors.
Half the field will be made up of Albany drivers, but for Trewern and Beres, the title will present an opportunity to join a select group as multiple winners of the event.
Ivan Burke, Darrell Thomson, Greg Freeman, Ben Ellement, David Ellement, Mick Johnson and Kye Blight are drivers to have won more than one title, and the Albany pair have the chance to add their name to that list.
Trewern claimed a breakthrough title win in 2014-15 in Carnarvon, while Beres’ triumph was in front of his home fans back in 2009-10.
Current State champion Matt Noakes headlines the field for the 37th running of the title, which also contains former champion Allan Mortimer.
Last year’s podium placegetters Johnson and Sean Theyer are not in the field.
Albany’s other hopes rest with young gun Blake Watson, the returning Calon Ball, and production sedan converts Nathan Penn and Mike Kinnear.
Gates open at 9am on Saturday, with racing starting at noon.
