Albany NAIDOC Ball to celebrate Aboriginal culture and achievements in the Great Southern

Albany’s Southern Aboriginal Corporation will host a ball next month to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Great Southern. To be held at Retravision Stadium on December 3, the 2022 NAIDOC Ball will be the first hosted by the not-for-profit organisation. The drug and alcohol-free event will feature music, food and an awards ceremony. “This local NAIDOC awards ceremony recognises the outstanding contributions that Indigenous Australians make to improve the lives of Indigenous people in their communities and beyond, also to promote Indigenous issues in the wider community,” SAC chief executive Asha Bhat said. SAC’s annual awards have been running for the past four years and recognise Aboriginal leadership in the Great Southern. Four awards will be presented, including elder of the year, young person of the year and the community services excellence award. A special award will be presented to a person or organisation which has represented the NAIDOC 2022 theme — Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
