The Albany Mountain Biking Club produced strong results in the final round of the WA Gravity Enduro State Series at Linga Longa Mountain Bike Park near Balingup earlier this month. More than 550 competitors from across the State met for round nine of the competition on November 18-19 to push the pedals for one last chance to be crowned WA champion. Members of the Albany Mountain Biking Club recorded multiple podium finishes, with five riders making their way onto the overall podium at the conclusion of the season. Abbey O’Donnell was superb across the track to finish third in the women’s under-17 race, securing 264 points on her way to being crowned champion. The young gun has achieved at least 200 points in each round this year to claim the top gong by 210 points ahead of second-placed Bella Moore. The victory is her second State championship after she claimed the Downhill State title recently. Harper O’Donnell was the fastest in his men’s under-19 race to climb up to second spot on the final podium. Jess Waldron finished agonisingly close to the podium in fourth in the elite women’s division but did not go home empty-handed. Waldron took home a bronze medal after finishing third overall after all nine rounds. Marcey O’Donnell crossed the finish line in sixth in the last round and claimed third place in the final standings. Beau Sobey was unstoppable across the dirt to claim gold in the under-13 whippets division. His final race ensured he clinched the bronze medal for the final standings. Dwayne Sobey finished 15th in the men’s masters while Louis McLean crossed the finish line in 45th for the under-15s. Riders are already looking forward to the National Gravity Enduro Titles which will be held in Perth for the first time in October 2024.
