A donation equivalent to 1440 meals has been delivered to Foodbank Albany this week thanks to Albany Menshed, York Street IGA and Ray White Albany.

The produce quickly found its way on to the shelves of the organisation’s Cockburn Road warehouse on Tuesday morning where it will meet growing demand for the service.

Albany Menshed’s $800 share came courtesy of its cash-for-cans collection which it donates to local community groups every six months or so.

“It was Foodbank’s turn this time and we wanted to get it into them before Christmas to make it a little bit easier with all the extra people they have coming through their doors,” chairman Gary Duncan said.

The need is just getting greater and greater and we need to help as many people as we can.

Ray White contributed a further $200 and York Street IGA topped up the donations with $500 worth of produce.

Albany Foodbank manager Rod Pfeiffer said the donation was equivalent to 1440 meals, which he described as a “massive boost in the lead-up to Christmas”.

“The need is just getting greater and greater and we need to help as many people as we can,” he said.

“We’re very grateful to Albany Menshed, York Street IGA and Ray White for the support and generosity.”

Community members are encouraged to donate whatever they can spare to the Albany Foodbank warehouse on Cockburn Road or directly through the Foodbank website by mentioning Albany in your donation transaction.
