Albany man charged over one-punch assault
A 23-year-old Albany man has been charged over the one-punch assault on Albany father of two Matthew Skeet in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Cody Nathan Lee Bennell faced Albany Magistrates Court today charged with grievous bodily harm from the alleged assault, which left Mr Skeet, 40, with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
Appearing in custody, Mr Bennell acknowledged the charge read to him with defence lawyer Janie Gibbs requesting a one-week adjournment until next Thursday.
The court heard a bail application would likely be made next week once CCTV footage and witnesses statements were disclosed to the defence.
Prosecuting Sgt Nathan Parkey told the court the investigation remained ongoing and police were investigating if more people were involved.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the second one-punch assault in the early hours of Sunday morning which left Albany man Tobiah Pocklington with serious head injuries.
