An Albany man accused of electronically exposing a child to indecent content has appeared in court.

The 61-year-old man from Spencer Park, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday on four charges of using electronic communication to expose a child under 16 years to indecent material.

It is alleged the man contacted a person he believed was a 15-year-old girl through a social media chat app between the dates of January 25 and February 10, and engaged in sexually explicit conversations.

The man was charged by detectives from the WA Police Force Child Abuse Squad over the incidents on February 21.

During his court appearance last week, the man’s lawyer said he intended to plead guilty to the charges at a later court hearing.

He was released on bail until his next court appearance on May 4.
