An Albany man allegedly used a gel blaster to hold a woman and four children hostage on Friday night. Troy Justin Waikin Mathew Brown, 28, appeared in Albany Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of armed robbery, deprivation of liberty and being armed in a way that may cause fear. Police allege about 9.30pm on Friday, Mr Brown stole a Holden Commodore from a property in Lockyer. It is alleged he made threats of violence to a woman and four children whom he detained unlawfully. Police say Mr Brown was in possession of a gel blaster that resembled an “automatic firearm”, and which he claimed to be a real firearm. Appearing in police custody after being arrested on Friday night, Mr Brown only spoke to confirm he understood the charges. Defence lawyer Janie Gibbs informed the court her client was not making a bail application. Magistrate Dianne Scaddan remanded Mr Brown in custody. Ms Gibbs advised the court there could be a bail application submitted during his next appearance. He is due back in court on September 30.
