Albany kept scoreless as Railways star Mitch Green suffers hamstring injury in wet weather win

Railways star Mitch Green faces a race against time to be fit for his side’s preliminary final in a fortnight after injuring his hamstring in their win over Albany at Tigerland on Sunday. Green was the only casualty to come out of the Tigers’ sixth win of the season as they all but stitched up second spot and a home preliminary final. The Tigers kept their opposition scoreless in wet and windy conditions to gain just under 18 per cent and jump above Denmark-Walpole heading into their final round clash with the Magpies this Saturday. The home side dominated possessions in the first term to have eight scoring shots from 13 inside-50s, as Shane Braimbridge playing as a deep forward booted the first major of the game before Green slotted the Tigers second of the term to hold an 18-point lead at the first change. The rain continued to fall in the second term as the Tigers kicked three goals to open up a handy 40-point buffer at the main change. Braimbridge added his second of the match before a clever goal from ruckman Xavier Brenton-Reed who handballed to himself and snapped from a tight angle on the boundary. The Tigers lead had blown out to 61 points by three-quarter-time. The home side completed the victory with four goals in the final term as Braimbridge took his tally to four in the comfortable 12.16 (88) to nil result. The Tigers now sit in second spot, four points and percentage clear of the Magpies. Returning captain Bodhi Stubber and Craig Frost cleaned up everything across half-back. Midfielders Joel Want and Green were strong throughout while Cyrus Upson and Kane Shephard were also impressive in the 88-point win. “It was good to get that one out of the way,” Tigers coach Troy Leo said. “It’s a good boost for our percentage and helps us out by getting second spot. “Green did his hammy which doesn’t look good but we can only hope.” Youngster Hudson O’Dea was superb for Sharks in keeping Tigers star Matt Palfrey goalless for the first time this year. Palfrey played higher up the ground and won plenty of his own ball but only managed two behinds. Flynn Breuker and Jake Stuart battled hard all game while Stewart Davies was solid in the ruck before going off with an eye injury. “I can’t fault these guys efforts,” Sharks coach Jamie Ramm said. “They go out there every week and give it all they have. “It was terrible conditions for footy today.”
