Albany police investigating cause of two-vehicle crash that left one man seriously injured near Albany airport

Police are investigating a serious crash on Albany Highway that caused one vehicle to roll and left the driver of another vehicle trapped near Albany airport on Tuesday. Just after 9am, a Mitsubishi Lancer and Toyota Hilux collided on Albany Highway, near the entrance to the airport, with both vehicles sustaining heavy damage. The driver of the Lancer, a man in his 20s, had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters. Three people were taken to Albany Health Campus for treatment, with the Lancer driver rushed to hospital with serious injuries, according to St John WA. Police say the Hilux was travelling north on Albany Highway when the vehicles collided, causing it to roll off the road and land back on four wheels. Both occupants of the Hilux needed medical treatment. The Lancer was travelling south and sustained heavy damage to its right-hand side before crashing into a fence. Albany Highway was temporarily closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.
