Three people escape serious injury after road train collides with car and caravan on Albany Highway

Three people have miraculously escaped serious injury after a heavy crash involving a truck and a car towing a caravan on Albany Highway near Narrikup on Thursday morning. Traffic on Albany Highway was built up in both directions for several hours after the incident, with grain from the rolled road train spilt across the crash scene, south of Narrikup. Main Roads WA confirmed one lane of traffic was re-opened just after 5pm. Emergency services responded to the incident on the highway in between Bails Road and Jackson Road, which happened at about 10.20am. Albany police confirmed the the male truck driver and two occupants in the utility towing the caravan escaped serious injury. St John WA attended the scene and transported the male truck driver, believed to be in his 50s, to Albany Health Campus for observation. Emergency services assisted with the clearing of petrol from the road as well as traffic management. Albany police confirmed there was a collision between the two vehicles on the highway with the car towing the caravan overtaking the road train in the overtaking lanes travelling south, prior to the crash. The crash is now being investigated by police. The road train involved in the crash had blocked both lanes of the highway, as grain spillage and debris spread across the busy route. The caravan was completely destroyed in the crash while it is understood the vehicle towing the caravan was not impacted. Light vehicles have been guided past the incident on the soft shoulder but heavy vehicles including other trucks were forced to wait as the crash scene was cleared.
