Albany group Southern Salties doing their bit for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Cups of tea will be drunk and baked goodies shared around the country on Thursday as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea raises vital funds for the Cancer Council.
The official date of the annual fundraiser is May 19, but morning teas can be held at any time in May or June to raise money for Australians affected by cancer.
There are events held in Albany each year, including a tea party at Middleton Beach hosted by the Southern Salties this Thursday.
The Southern Salties is calling on the Albany public to drop by on Thursday morning, enjoy a drink and something to eat and donate to a worthy cause.
Group member MJ Gibbs said so many people had been affected by cancer Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was an opportunity to do something positive.
“Most of us have been touched by losing someone to cancer,” she said.
“We haven’t done a major fundraiser for a while with COVID so we thought it was timely.
“We choose as a group what we do but cancer affects everyone and something like this is really important.”
The Southern Salties had an initial goal of reaching $200 but they have already raised more than $700.
“We are inviting anyone to come down from 7.30am till about 10am,” Ms Gibbs said.
“Grab a takeaway coffee, we have beautiful food that is free of charge and donate if you can.
“We will have jars for people to put money in or they can donate online on the day as well.”
