The Albany Golf Club has been declared WA’s Regional Golf Facility of the Year for the first time in its 123-year history.

The WA Golf Industry Awards were presented last Friday night at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre to more than 500 experts and industry insiders.

Albany Golf Club general manager, Dan Northcott, said excitement was high at the biggest State golfing awards ceremony of the year.

The Regional Golf Facility of the Year award is given to a club which displays excellence in several areas including membership retention, financial performance and community contribution.

But if he had to name one stand-out area, Mr Northcott said it might have been the club’s COVID-19 response strategy. “At the height of the pandemic in early April, we were almost sending messages out each day to our members as the landscape changed,” he said.

Mr Northcott said the club was not resting on its laurels leading into its upcoming 125th anniversary.

“This is really a good lead-in to say to our members, ‘We’re heading in the right direction and the club’s in a great financial position’,” he said.
