Ladies’ pennants have provided the early action in the Lower Great Southern Bowling League with three sides emerging undefeated in first division after the first two rounds.

Reigning pennant holders Emu Point Red have started the season impressively with two comfortable wins against the recently promoted Cranbrook 4(41) to 0(25) and Mid Beach White 4(45) to 0(36).

Recent recruit Anne Hunter has fitted into the team seamlessly and they will look to continue their early good form.

Their main challengers Mount Barker Golf also provided notable results, winning both of their games by a combined 53 shots against Denmark Aqua 4(57) to 0(26) and Albany Green 4(47) to 0(25).

The other undefeated combination is Albany Gold who have begun the season with wins against Mid Beach Green 4(50) to 0(31) and a thriller over Denmark Aqua 3(36) to 1(35) who will host Cranbrook in the next round.

Cranbrook are finding life in the top division a lot tougher after being promoted after last season.

Ladies second division has seen Mid Beach Red being the only unbeaten side, recording a close win against Emu Point Blue 4(38) to 0(36) in round one before thumping Mt Barker Golf 4(55) to 0(18) in the second round.

Emu Point Purple travelled to face Denmark Orange and won 4(52) to 0(33) while Emu Point Blue had the bye.

Men’s third division has begun as round one saw Albany White record a strong 5(65) to 1(47) home win over Mt Barker Golf Blue.

The two other games were derbies as Mid Beach White beat Lime 5(61) to 1(55) and Emu Point White beat Black 5(67) to 1(44).

Reigning pennant holders Green Range, Frankland and Denmark will begin their campaigns after having a bye in the first round.

Men’s first and second divisions will begin this week.
