Albany dogs and owners thrilled to use brand new sectioned-off enclosure park at Centennial Park

Dog owners can now exercise their pets in a spacious enclosure in Centennial Park that provides furry friends with a fun and secure place to play. The City of Albany’s Facebook page announced the opening of the dog enclosure at Centennial Park last week. Their post received 87 comments in the first two hours from dog owners sharing their excitement and gratitude. Local Robert Svanberg and his five-year-old labradoodle Archie have waited patiently for the enclosure’s opening. “There’s nothing else like it in Albany,” Mr Svanberg said. “It’s a safe spot for dogs to go. It’s away from the road and water and a chance to socialise with other dogs.” The enclosure has three sections designed for every type of breed, whether they like to jump, run or relax. The idea for the dog play area came about in 2022 after the city received two petitions with more than 500 signatures. “The infrastructure supports residents’ wishes for a safe and inclusive space with opportunities for socialisation, engagement and positive wellbeing,” city reserves manager Jacqui Freeman said. Construction took two months with the City of Albany putting the finishing touches in place over the coming days with water fountains.
