Albany Community Kindergarten students brighten up Albany for annual Teddy Bear Walk

York Street was brightened with a rainbow of handmade teddy bears and the smiles of the Albany Community Kindergarten students who created them this week as they celebrated their annual Teddy Bear Walk. It was the 12th edition of the Teddy Bear Walk for the kindergarten, an annual journey which takes the children down Albany’s main street with teddies they design and create themselves. It was a full day out for the children, including a tour of the Albany Public Library and a trip to the post office to send their wish list letters to Santa Claus. Their next stops were Dylan’s on the Terrace for ice-cream sundaes, and Albany Police Station, where they delivered a book they had made for police officers who visited the kindergarten earlier this year. After that, they went to the Museum of the Great Southern then enjoyed a picnic lunch. Teacher Karen Marshall said the Teddy Bear Walk was a chance for the children to show off their hard work to the community. “It takes several months of tracing, drawing, painting, sewing and stuffing to complete these beautiful bears and it makes sense to have a big celebration once they are finished,” she said.
