Tickets are still available for the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Great Southern International Women’s Day celebration on Wednesday.

The event has pre-emptively moved from its original location at the Hilton Garden Inn due to forecast wet weather.

ACCI interim chief executive Kristen Pyrz-Brown said the day was an opportunity to come together and celebrate.

“I really believe that further awareness of the contribution of women is needed, and it’s also a chance to celebrate how fortunate we are to be women in a western country,” she said.

“There are still countries in the world where this is highly necessary because of genital mutilation, forced marriages, child labour and all those things still going on.”

The theme for this year is DigitALL, promoting innovation and technology for gender equality.

Ms Pyrz-Brown said the ACCI had programmed speakers who successfully incorporated the digital world into their business.

“We’ve got a very interactive and tangible set of sessions this year,” she said.

Attendees will have the opportunity to “mix and mingle” allowing people time to talk about “their business and their successes in a speed networking format”.

The opening keynote address will be delivered by Vernice Gillies and closing address by Denmark’s Louise O’Neill.

Ms O’Neill tapped into digital platforms by taking her business online as Farm Life Fitness, becoming one of the winners of the AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award last year.

“She’ll be talking about how she took a very unlikely profession and made it digital proving that just about anything could be taken online successfully,” Ms Pyrz-Brown said.

Other speakers will present on topics including Building Your Brand and Getting Real With Google.

“You can come and find out why it’s important to have a good presence on Google, or why it’s important to have a good marketing strategy you then turn into something online,” Ms Pyrz-Brown said.
