Albany and Districts Cricket Association quartet perform brightly at WA Country Colts

Four Albany and Districts Cricket Association players performed brightly in the first fixture of the WA Country Colts in Perth on Sunday among some of the State’s most promising juniors and Indigenous players.

Royals’ Ted Batchelor, Ryley Valli and Angus Thompson, along with Manypeaks’ Seb Stanton, all contributed well for their respective sides at Murdoch University playing fields.

Batchelor was the captain of the Country Gold side which also featured Valli and Thompson, while Stanton performed well for Country Black.

Both of the Country sides won fixtures against the WA Deaf XI but both went down to the WA Indigenous XI.

Stanton opened the batting for the Country Black side in their first fixture against the WA Indigenous side, whacking 30 from 31 balls to help them post 7-115 from their 20 overs.

Stanton and Darcy Ingle (43 runs) put together a 50-run stand while former Albany local Bobby Gibson added an unbeaten 16 at the end.

In reply, WA Indigenous chased down the total for the loss of two wickets, going on to finish at 5-155 with Bevan Bennell starring with an unbeaten 68 from 38 balls including five sixes.

The Country Gold side successfully chased down the WA Deaf XI’s 6-118.

Thompson claimed 1-13 off his four overs while Batchelor snared 1-7 off two overs and Valli chipped in with 1-23 from three overs.

But Ethan Johnson was the pick of the bowlers with 4-31.

Batchelor and Valli opened the batting, with Batchelor bowled for a duck and Valli adding five before being run-out.

Bennell again starred with the bat whacking an unbeaten 70 from 36 balls which included five sixes, helping the WA Indigenous XI set 5-164 batting first against Country Gold.

Valli claimed 2-13 off three overs while Thompson took 1-28 off four.

In reply, Country Gold could only manage 7-120 with Batchelor making 12, Valli adding five and Thompson four not out.

Country Black successfully chased down WA Deaf XI total of 102 in their second game, finishing on 8-118.

Stanton made 13 batting at number seven.
