Alan Charles Jones, 84, charged with child sex offences dating back to the 1970s and 1980s in Tambellup

A former butcher from a small town in the Great Southern has faced court on historic child sex charges. Alan Charles Jones, 84, appeared in Katanning Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 14 years and two counts of carnal knowledge against nature. The man, who police say is a Great Southern resident, was granted a four-week adjournment for legal advice. He is due back in Katanning Magistrates Court on July 5. Albany detectives will allege Mr Jones was the owner of a butcher shop in Tambellup when he sexually assaulted a boy more than 40 years ago. His butcher shop was situated on Norrish Street. The child sex crimes allegedly occurred between 1978 and 1980. The boy was 12 years old at the time of the first offence, according to police.
