Albany will be cheering for local boy Jordan Clark on Saturday as the city chases another chapter in its AFL grand final book.
In the last decade Albany pair Jeremy McGovern and Darcy Cameron have achieved the ultimate success and now Clark and his family and friends that hope it’s a third time lucky for the postcode of 6330 — and another premiership winner chalks his place in folklore.
Clark, who grew up in Albany and played as a youngster for Railways, will be part of Fremantle’s team that is gunning for history — to become the first Dockers players to win an AFL premiership.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season, earning his second All-Australian jacket, but he is driven to achieve team success and that elusive part of Fremantle’s history.
Clark attended Monday night’s Brownlow Medal function at Optus Stadium on his own, with partner Paige McCarthy at home as they expect their first child in the coming weeks.
In front of thousands of fans, Clark got through the Dockers’ main training session at their headquarters in Cockburn on Wednesday.
It will be a busy week as Clark and the Dockers fly out to Melbourne on Thursday morning, before a couple of key parts of grand final week.
On Friday they will be part of the official grand final parade, from John Cain Arena to the MCG starting at 8.30am, WA time.
The players will be presented on stage after being part of the motorcade through the city.
Following that the Dockers will be out on the MCG for their captain’s run, the final part of their preparation ahead of Saturday’s premiership decider.
From there all the attention turns to Saturday with more than 100,000 people expected at the MCG as the Dockers look to scale the ultimate summit, while Brisbane have their eyes on a premiership three-peat.
