Advertiser names 2019 GSFL Team of the Year
The much-anticipated 2019 Albany Advertiser Great Southern Football League Team of the Year has been announced this week.
After lengthy discussion between Advertiser sports reporters, the playing 22 and a coach were selected following the completion of the GSFL season.
The selection panel takes into account consistency, form, games played, team balance and voting in major awards, including the Kleemann Medal.
Royals dominated the team this year with seven players named and premiership coach Andrew Ruck getting the nod.
Railways and Mt Barker have four representatives each while Albany’s Coen Marwick was the sole player picked from his club.
It was a third straight selection for brilliant Lion Corey Ward plus Denmark-Walpole’s superb duo of Ryan Gaerth and Tyler Stone while Mitch Green and Bodhi Stubber were both named in the 2018 team.
Kleemann medallist Logan Stubber heads up the midfield with Lions ball winners Dave Parker and Jordan Heil.
Stuart Parker won a close battle for the ruck spot while Steven Edwards’ ability to impact games earned him a position on the field.
Lee Pavlovich was rewarded for his ultra-consistent year in defence as were key defenders Regan Lloyd and Hamish McMorran, who were rarely beaten during the season.
