Advertiser anoints its GSFL team of the year

Albany Advertiser

The Albany Advertiser GSFL Team of the Year was announced last Thursday night at the annual Kleemann Medal count.

The team, which is chosen by the Albany Advertiser sports journalists, factors in consistency, form, games played, team balance and voting in major awards — the Advertiser Footballer of the Year Award and the Coaches’ Player of the Year Award.

Ten players made the team for the first time, including Kleemann Medallist Joel Want, third placegetter Joel Gray and leading goal kicker Kenton Gibbs.

The grand final combatants each have six players in the team while Railways coach Craig Frost was preferred as coach after taking the Tigers to the minor premiership from fourth spot in 2017 in a home and away season where they lost only two games.

In other awards announced last Thursday night, Mt Barker president Dean Wallinger was announced as the WA Country Football League volunteer of the year.
