Additional State traffic officers hit region as part of heavy police presence on Great Southern roads

State traffic police were out in force last week, targeting drink and drug driving in the Great Southern. A booze and drug bus along with additional officers and vehicles were in the region from Thursday through to Sunday as part of a targeted traffic operation. Roadblocks were set up over several days at different locations, where motorists were subject to drug and alcohol testing. The State traffic unit were also focused on category-A offences that are high contributors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads. Great Southern police traffic officer-in-charge Sergeant Derek Grimes said the operation was a success. “These additional resources are always welcomed in the Great Southern and the operation is important to remind road users that if you are doing the wrong thing you will be caught,” Sgt Grimes said. “Alcohol and drug detection was a target along with category-A offences that we see all too often contributing to serious and fatal crashes on our roads.”
