ADCA 2023-24: Victories to Manypeaks and Royals in high-scoring round two junior matches

Manypeaks and Royals recorded convincing victories in round two of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association under-17s competition on Sunday. Railways set Peaks 204 to win in their clash at Turf South but Peaks were up to the task as three players reached half centuries. Angus McSweeney, Max Osborne and Oliver Douglas all scored 50s before retiring and their side finished up making 3-248 in a huge run chase. Jayden Wood (22) and Regan Christensen (44) continued to run scoring for Peaks as they went on to notch their first win of the season. McSweeney hit six boundaries in his 50 from 59 balls, Osborne made 50 from 70 deliveries and Douglas reached 50 from 57. Charlie Cousins was the only multiple wicket taker with 2-26 from five overs as he dismissed Wood and Christensen, and the Tigers also had a run-out when Lilly Briscoe and Heath Caldwell combined to remove Eugene Bird for one. Earlier the Tigers set a terrific target batting first, on the back of a 106-run stand from openers Cousins and Lochlan Otway. Cousins made 45 before he was the first wicket to fall while Otway retired after reaching 50. Peaks executed well with the ball in the middle overs as Bird, Wood and Harry Stephens all snared two wickets. Caldwell (20), Kai Harvey (18 not out) and Brock Wilkinson (17) got starts as the Tigers finished 9-203 from their 45 overs. Wood bowled six overs to return 2-22 and Stephens claimed 2-14. At Turf East, the Lions got their first win of the new season, defeating Collingwood Park by 81 runs. Park were bowled out for 131, batting first after a strong start from the Lions with the ball. Only Dash Germinario (21) and Jacobus Swart (27) surpassed 20 for Park, who never recovered after being 5-80. Hayden Leo (2-6) took key early wickets and was well supported by Hudson Ramm (2-24), Bailey Daubney (2-14) and Vince Bascombe (2-3). Bascome and Leo fell cheaply in the run chase as the Lions slipped to 2-16 and then Chaz Durack had Ulrich Kriek caught and bowled for six. Davey Wignall and Riley Bessen steadied the innings, however, before Bessen departed on 26. A big-hitting Matt Thompson guided the Lions across the line, belting 41 from 28 balls in an innings that included three sixes. Wignall retired on 50 and further support from Daubney (17 not out) and Lucas Smart (18) helped the Lions finish on 7-212. Chaz Durack (2-10) and Max Robinson (2-15) were the multiple wicket takers for Park.
