Abbi Gibson is eager to represent her state in basketball and put two years of training into practice

Impressive Albany basketball talent Abbi Gibson is hoping she can put two years of training into practice and represent WA at the 2021 Australian Under-18 Junior Championships in April. Gibson has been selected in the WA under-18 country women’s team that is set to compete at the Australian Junior Championships in Werribee, Victoria. Last year Gibson was picked in the WA Country under-16 team but the national championships were cancelled because of COVID-19. An underage State tennis star, Gibson has turned her focus to basketball in recent years and is thriving. The 16-year-old will be an underage player in the WA 18s outfit and is eager for the championship between April 10-17 to tip off. “It’s a great achievement because of all the training I have done over the past two years, it’s been a lot of hard yards,” she said. “I’m very excited for the challenge to take on the best from around the country, I’m ready as I can be and I can’t wait. “It’s amazing to be able to learn from some of the other girls and just have the calibre of athletes over there, it will be amazing.” Gibson has been in superb form this season, scoring 116 points from 10 games for the Raiders under-18s in the local women’s A-grade competition. “I enjoy basketball, there’s different aspects, if you have a bad day in a certain skill you can do something else, it’s just fun to be in team,” she said. “I have done a lot of training with Luke (McGuire) and he has done a lot to help me so that’s been great.”
