Albany Basketball Association has continued its recent success to claim the under-14 girls’ championship division at the 2017 Basketball WA Country Championships at Bendat Basketball Centre in Perth last weekend.

After taking out the under-16 girls’ category the previous week, Albany came away with another win as the under-14 side notched a comprehensive 32-point victory in the final, following a dominant display in the round robin stages.

Albany won all five of their round robin matches, which included a 27-point win over Geraldton and a 43-point victory over Kalgoorlie.

Ella Doyle produced an outstanding tournament to average 13.5 points per game, leading the competition, while Emma Fleck provided good support with 8.3 points a game.

After progressing to the grand final, Albany got off to a hot start against Mandurah and led 24-2 at half time.

More of the same in the second half saw them finish strongly to win 46-14.

Fleck and Doyle were the team’s two main contributors with 17 and 12 points respectively, while Jade Dimer chipped in seven points.

Albany were third in the under-13 girls’ championship division after winning five of their seven games.

In the under-12 girls’ championship category, Albany were sixth after recording one win from their six matches.

Albany were seventh in the under-15 girls’ championship division, with the side notching one win throughout the tournament.

Denmark Basketball Association finished fifth in the under-14 girls’ division 2.
