A strong bowling performance from Redbacks helps them notch third win of under-14s season

Redbacks notched their third win of the Albany and Districts Cricket Association under-14s competition in round six at Turf East on Saturday. A superb bowling performance was able to help Redbacks bounce back on to the winners’ list as they won by 13 runs against Kings. Redbacks batted first and set their opponents 125 for victory, and they were in a strong position in the second innings as they had Kings 5-21 in reply with Flynn Kelleher-Bird doing the damage. However, O’Shea Durack, Riley Bessen and Mitchell Cameron dug deep for Kings to rescue their side. When Cameron was removed, Kings were 6-67 but lost 4-22 to fall to 9-89. Kings dug deep again but finished on 9-111 as Durack was unbeaten on 39 and Cameron added 11 while Bessen played a patient innings with nine from 37 balls. Heath Caldwell claimed the impressive figures of 2-3 from three overs, two of which were maidens, and Kelleher-Bird ended up with 3-14. Batting first Redbacks posted 124 as Oliver Douglas top-scored with 18no while Regan Christensen added 14. Durack, Bessen and Kaleb Germain all took two wickets for Kings. Blues ended Warriors undefeated start to the season with a two-wicket victory on Turf South. A strong batting performance helped Blues chase down Warriors’ total with two wickets in hand. Teague Valli retired on 39 while Riley Nicholas finished unbeaten on 31 as Blues made 8-198. Lilly Briscoe took 2-20 for Warriors. Batting first, Warriors set 8-154 after Milan Jaggi posted 31no and Buddy Robinson added an unbeaten 15. Brock Wilkinson and Charlie Cousins each claimed two wickets for Blues. A powerful batting performance from Griffins guided them to a comfortable 175-run victory over Plantagenet White. Griffins set 5-246 off their 36 overs as Jed Kowald (45no), Blair Ball (35), Ryan Hams (34 retired not out) and Louis Cosh (31 retired not out) starred with the bat. In reply, Plantagenet White were bowled out for 71 as Jack Heffernan-Backshell top scored with 17. Vincent Bascombe claimed 3-11 and was well supported by Fraser Syme and Kowald who took two scalps each. Denmark notched their second win of the season against Plantagenet Green at McLean Park. Jed Ross starred in the 74-run victory as he finished on 77 with his side posting 9-189 batting first. Tarik Hartfield and Lochie Otway finished not out at the top of the order with 37 and 29 respect-ively. An unbeaten 38 at the top of the order from Jonty Bolto was not enough for Plantagenet Green as they fell short, reaching 6-115.
