Police are on the hunt for two boys filmed surfing on the roof of a bus through Sydney’s east on Sunday afternoon.
Wild footage shows the two teenagers hitching a ride on the roof of the 356 bus, driving from Eastgardens to Bondi Junction, about 11.40am on Sunday.
The boys were lying and relaxing on the roof of the vehicle – a dangerous and illegal move known as “bus surfing”.
The teens got off the bus when the driver stopped at Queens Park.
A NSW Police spokesman told NewsWire that police spotted the bus at Bondi Junction, but the teenagers had already fled the scene.
Transport NSW co-ordinator general Howard Collins said the stunt could have life-changing consequences, particularly if the bus drove under a bridge or near exposed power lines.
“There’s nothing harmless about this type of behaviour. It endangers lives and disrupts the safety of our transport network,” he told 9News.
He said Transport NSW were working with police in the investigation.
“Too often, it’s young people getting caught up in this, and they’re putting themselves and others at serious risk,” Mr Collins said.
“This could be the last decision you ever make.”
Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
