Victorian footy fans are being encouraged to adopt a larger furry friend from the Lost Dogs' Home to take home and watch the footy with.

Kangaroos defender Jasper Pittard adopted a greyhound recently and is backing the message to "Adopt a Buddy this Footy Season....and For Life."

The campaign hopes people consider bigger dogs, which the North Melbourne shelter finds harder to re-home due to misconceptions they are harder to manage.
