Binalup, Menang: First Light, First People
For over two years, celebrated portrait photographer Nic Duncan worked with Menang elder Carol Pettersen on this special exhibition to celebrate Albany’s Menang elders. Each subject selected a location meaningful to them before they shared stories of their life and culture. It’s running at the Albany Town Hall until July 26.

Pair’d
An impressive batch of chefs, winemakers and musical acts from across the globe are descending on the Margaret River Region for Pair’d, running from November 19 to 22. From Singapore comes Burnt Ends’ Dave Pynt, pitmaster Rodney Scott — a Chef’s Table favourite on Netflix — brings his barbecue flavours from the US, and Matt Abergel joins the fun from Hong Kong. They join a medley of local talent, including Fervor’s Paul Iskov, former Noma chef Ben Ing and sommelier Cyndal Petty. If anyone is pondering the idea of keeping bees or has a loved one embarking on the journey, Mary Trumble and Henry Fried’s new book is where to look. The illustrated guide has everything you need to know from bees’ anatomy and social habits to the plants they need to survive. Trumble and Fried own Melbourne-based urban beekeeping business Backyard Honey, and are passionate about the crucial existence of the insects. This special exhibition at Sava Art gallery from local creatives Ariel Katzir and Tessa Dorotich is more than just a feast for the eyes. All $10 ticket sales to its closing event on July 17 will go towards the Aliyah Mae Foundation, who provide ICU care packs containing essential and comfort items to families facing unexpected hospital stays with their sick children. Fromage Affair
If there was ever a dish to tempt you away from the heater, this is it. For the next three months Small Print Wine Bar is bringing back its annual Fromage Affair, which includes Swiss fondue — with the option to add Manjimup truffle for extra decadence — and bottomless raclette. Engine
Across four nights in August comes Sydney Dance Company’s Engine: a performance that sees three choreographers unite for an evening of “bold, fearless dance”. Australian-based Rafael Bonachela and Melanie Lane and joined by Berlin-based Fran Diaz at the State Theatre Centre of WA, with each of the three works promising something unique but equally compelling.
