Volvo has revealed Australian pricing for its first fully battery powered vehicle, with the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric arriving in the second half of the year priced from $76,990 plus on roads.

It marks a $12,000 premium over the XC40 plug-in hybrid already on the market, and a tick over $10,000 more than other electric small SUVs such as the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona.

Available in a single specification, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric has apir of 150kW electric motors — one at the front, one at the back — offering a combined 300kW and 660Nm.

It will send the XC40 from 0-100km/h in a seriously rapid 4.9 seconds, but take it easier and Volvo says you’ll have up to 418km of range from the 78kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the floor.

Find a fast charging station and you can charge the battery from 0-80 per cent in around 40 minutes.

There are other interesting features aside from the electric powertrain.

Remarkably, there is no start/stop button inside; once the car’s unlocked, the driver can sit down buckle up and drive off.

The climate system removes outside pollutants and particles from entering the cabin — delivering “Scandinavian-fresh” air, according to Volvo — while the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is the first vehicle in Australia to come with a fully integrated Google Android Infotainment operating system, with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store all built in.

Aluminium accents and leather accented seats with constrasting stitching feature throughout the interior, wihle other standard features include a Harmon Kardon Premium Sound System, 20-inch 5V-spoke matt graphite diamond cut alloy wheels, heated seats and safety gear including city safety, collision warning and mitigation, and parking assist.

It has a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty — two years more than some other luxury brand soffer — plus eight years of roadside assistance and a three-year 100,000km service wear and tear plan which includes wiper blades, brake pads and brake discs.

The battery has an eight-year warranty.

Volvo will electrify its entire range by 2025, offering plug-in hybrids and full EVs.

It will also bring its Polestar EV brand to Australia this year.
