Jeep has updated its Gladiator range, reducing the number of variants available and improving the dual cab’s payload.

The entire line-up now has seen its payload rise to 693kg, which is only a 73kg improvement and is well short of most dual cab rivals, but is enough to see the Gladiator reclassified from an off-road passenger vehicle to a light goods carrying vehicle.

There are now only two variants on offer, with the previously entry level Sport S replaced by a new Night Eagle trim and the Overland seemingly discontinued.

Mirroring the Wrangler, Compass and Grand Cherokee ranges, the Night Eagle kicks off the line-up.

Its $68,350 plus on roads price tag means entry to the range has now risen $3000, but offers a number of features not found on the Sport S such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, black interior accents, 17-inch black wheels, gloss black grille, body colour end flares, black exterior accents, tinted windows, remote start, a 4.10 non-locking rear axle ratio, 240-amp alternator and more.

The Rubicon has risen $500 to $76,950, but also added heated leather seats and a heated steering wheel to its standard features.

The 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine offering 209kW and 347Nm remain, once again paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Both variants can be had with a $2950 Lifestyle Adventure Group, which adds four auxilliary switches, 700 amp maintenance battery, lockable underseat storage, spray-in bedliner, roll-up tonneau cover, wireless Bluetooth speaker and more.

The Rubicon can also be had with a Premium Package (body coloured fender flares and hardtop, $2950) and a $2000 Trail Ready Package adding a stel front bumper and 17-inch black alloy wheels.
