This week, Slow Horses star Gary Oldman weighed in on who he think the next James Bond should be, letting slip that producers had found their man.
“They have made their choice but they have not announced it yet,” Oldman told a Canadian news show.
“So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
There would be something so delicious about oldman’s Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden, who plays fallen spy River Cartwright, being plucked from Slough House to end up as the next 007.
He’d make a fabulous new recruit — after all, he’s more than proven he’s up to the job.
But in the meantime, he’s going to have to survive this sixth season of the British espionage drama, which sees his character, along with all the other “Slow Horses” under Jackson Lamb’s (Oldman) charge, on a kill list and staring down imminent death.
Someone is going down a list and bumping off Slow Horses past and present one by one — things aren’t looking good for any of them.
Based on the books by Mick Herron, it’s hard to overstate just how excellent this show is — and it keeps getting better and better and better, with some fabulous surprises and a new character, played by Lenny Rush, popping up this season.
With the next Bond film still a way off, this fantastic show more than adequately fills the void.
In fact, it’s doing such an excellent job, it will be difficult to watch subsequent 007s without having it in the back of our minds.
Hmm . . . the plot thickens.

Monday, streaming on HBO Max
Jeff Goldblum has been announced as host of the season two premiere, with Irish superstar CMAT joining as the musical guest — excuse me while I squeal with excitement. Love those guys! Taking this established format overseas was always a gamble, but it’s paid off, with this UK iteration finding its feet and its own ardent fan base. Heaps of fun.
Sydney Harbour Cops
Tuesday, 7.30pm, Ten
Sydney Harbour is one of the busiest waterways in the world. Marine Area Command is tasked with protecting and patrolling it, and this follows the cops that work within that unit. Think real-life Water Rats, without Gary Sweet, but with a stack of pretty kick-arse officers up to the task and rising to the challenge. As factual series go, this one’s pretty interesting and worth a look.
Apocalypse
Wednesday, streaming on Foxtel and Binge
There’s been a giant JLP-sized hole in my life since Jonathan LaPaglia was unceremoniously dumped from Australian Survivor. But he’s back, narrating this fascinating social-experiment-cum-reality-series. Fourteen contestants must survive for 28 days in a post-apocalyptic town with zero amenities and zero rule of law — what could possibly go wrong? Spoiler: a lot. Obsessed.

Friday, streaming on Paramount Plus
If you’ve got your nose in the pop culture trough, you’ll be aware of the controversy surrounding Tom Hardy publicly beefing with this show’s writers and producers — there were rumours he’d not be back for a third season. But consider all that forgotten: he’s signed on for another round, alongside co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. You have our permission to commit to this second season.
