John Farnham seen with family in Boxing Day pics, fans share love for iconic Australian singer
John Farnham, legendary singer of You’re the Voice, has been seen in new photos with his loving family as the crew gathered on Boxing Day.
Farnham, 76, was seen in two photos on social media shared by his sons, Rob and James.
“Merry Christmas from the Farnhams,” James wrote, posting one of the images.
The Two Strong Hearts singer has kept a low profile in recent years as he spends time with his family and focuses on his health and recovery.
In the Boxing Day pics, Farnham was seen smiling, surrounded by family at the dinner table.
The picture appears to have served as a late Christmas present to Farnham’s devoted fans, who thanked the boys for sharing the happy snaps.
“Great photo Rob,” one fan wrote. “Thanks so much for sharing... You really have no idea how happy it makes everyone who grew up with John to see a beautiful photo like this!”
“So good to see you looking great John, lots and lots of love to you and your family,” said another fan.
“Great to see a photo of John. He is looking so well. Appreciate you sharing this,” wrote a third.
In 2022, Farnham was diagnosed with oral cancer.
A malignant tumour, which was originally thought to just be an ulcer, was discovered inside the singer’s mouth.
Farnham underwent 12 hours of life saving surgery after the discovery, which included having a part of his mouth and jaw removed.
After weeks of radiation, Farnham received the news that he was cancer-free, but the life-saving surgery left him unable to sing like before.
“I can’t get the movement to make the sounds I want to make, that’s where the vibrations and my voice come from. It’s a very disconcerting thing. And trying hurts,” he wrote in his memoir The Voice Inside.
In his book, Farnham admitted he still sings in the shower, but defined the noise as more or a “wail”.
“I can barely open my mouth but I still wail in the shower,” he wrote.
“I love to make noises with my throat. Since I was a kid I’ve loved to whistle, I’ve loved to sing.
“I was given a gift and to be able to get out there and affect people in some way was a special thing. I would like to continue doing that. So, though I am not putting all my hopes into it, we’ll see.”
The Voice Inside is the first memoir Farnham approved in his storied career.
He wrote the book with first-time author Poppy Stockwell, the director and co-writer of the award-winning and record-breaking documentary John Farnham: Finding the Voice.
