Karl Stefanovic's fireside chat with far-right UK activist Tommy Robinson has landed him both in the headlines and hot water with Nine executives.

But the podcast episode, which was swiftly deleted by the Today host before being re-uploaded by One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, is far from the first time Stefanovic has courted national attention for antics both on and off screen.

MORE THAN HUNG OVER

A big night at the Logie Awards in 2009 resulted in Stefanovic fronting the cameras on the Today show the next morning more than a little under the weather.

Stefanovic looked flushed, slurred his words and sometimes giggled in an appearance that caused quite a stir at the time.

In 2014 he finally admitted to what everyone else had already guessed: "I really was drunk, or at least I certainly looked and sounded drunk".

"I was worried about it initially, but I think it broke down a barrier for me. It's that age-old theory in TV that if you haven't harmed anyone, the public might find it funny," he said in an interview posted on YouTube.

SUIT EXPERIMENT

Buoyed by a motivation to point out the sexism facing female his co-hosts, in 2014 Stefanovic conducted an experiment where he wore the same suit every day for a year.

Viewers did not notice, something he said at the time was reflective of the different standards he and then-co-host Lisa Wilkinson were held to.

"No one gives a sh*t," Stefanovic told Fairfax Media at the time.

"But women, they wear the wrong colour and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there's thousands of tweets written about them."

The experiment was widely praised and the suit was later auctioned for $6500, with all proceeds donated to women's charity White Ribbon.

UBER INCIDENT

Stefanovic and his journalist brother Peter were forced to apologise to Today co-host Georgie Gardner in 2018 after a 45-minute speakerphone call recorded by an Uber driver mid-ride was sold to a magazine.

The recording was labelled a "shocking rant" by the driver who said the siblings took aim at Gardner for being "too neutral" and presenter Richard Wilkins for not sharing entertainment stories.

"We talk a hundred times a day and hardly ever about work," Stefanovic said in reference to the brothers relationship at the time.

"But we did, and the conversation was recorded. And we are sorry. I was angry with myself at first that I could be so stupid."

It was reported at the time the driver was paid $50,000 for the story.

COVID VACCINE STANCE

In April 2026, Stefanovic revealed he has "deep regret" about taking the Covid vaccination five years earlier.

The admission came after he took part in Nine's "This is Our Shot" vaccination campaign during the pandemic.

"It's something I regret and I can't do anything about, but I can certainly try and articulate the voices of those who can't be heard," Stefanovic said on his podcast.

An episode of the show, which Stefanovic said he will record this week, is set to feature Dr Aseem Malhorta, who has claimed Shane Warne's death was connected to the Covid vaccine.

MARRIAGE BREAKDOWN AFTERMATH

Stefanovic left his wife of more than 20 years, Cassandra Thorburn near the height of his breakfast television career in 2016.

What followed was an acrimonious divorce that was worsened when the then-father-of-three soon began dating model-turned-shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, who is 10 years his junior.

The couple wed in a lavish, and widely reported, four-day wedding at a Mexican resort in December 2018.

Little more than a week after they exchanged vows, Stefanonvic was axed from Today after 15 years in the top job amid falling ratings and unrelenting coverage of his personal life.

"It's been a tough time," said in a statement issued at the time.

A further dive in ratings after Stefanovic's departure resulted in him being re-instated as co-host in Novemeber 2019.

TRANSGENDER COMMENTS

Stefanovic caused controversy in 2016 after making jokes about transgender people on air and using the term "tranny" in a live cross with a reporter.

He was swift to walk back the remarks, issuing an apology to Today viewers and a transgender friend of his who took offence to the comments.

"By using the word `tranny', I offended an awful lot of beautiful sensitive people," he said.

Stefanovic said he wrongly thought people would laugh along with him, adding he often laughed at things he shouldn't.

"At times my humour is skewed in a very strange fashion," Stefanovic said at the time.
