Hugh Jackman has posted an emotional farewell to his father Chris, who died in the early hours of yesterday morning - Father’s Day in Australia.

Jackman’s father, who was 84, raised him single-handedly after his mother left the family for the UK when he was a child.

On Monday night, 52-year-old Jackman revealed his father had passed away and said he was filled with ‘gratitude and love’ for his dad.

“In the early hours of Father’s Day (AU), my Dad peacefully passed away,” he wrote.

“My Dad was, in a word, extraordinary.

“He devoted his life to his family, his work and his faith. I pray he is now at peace with God.”

Jackman told The Sun in 2011 he had patched things up with his mother, Grace, who made the trip to visit him in Australia annually while he was growing up.

“As I grew older I gained an understanding of why Mum did leave,” he said.

Jackman said he learned his mother had been suffering from undiagnosed post-natal depression.

“I am 43 now and we have definitely made our peace, which is important.”

Recently Jackman, who studied at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, revealed some of his favourite memories of Perth.
