Buckle up, 5G is finally here with Telstra rolling out hotspot devices and smartphones

Telstra has begun selling Australia’s first 5G device, a 5G hotspot, and will start selling a 5G mobile phone next week.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available from Tuesday at Telstra and Samsung Experience stores.

The HTC 5G Hub will be available from Telstra stores on the same date, and is available to order online now, Telstra announced on Wednesday.

Telstra has been building its 5G network since 2016, and says its current footprint reaches CBD locations and selected regional centres where four million Australians live, work or pass each day.

Telstra said 5G “has the potential to transform the way we all live and work” through faster speeds and ultra-low latency.

Rival Optus, meanwhile, announced on Monday it has 70 sites that are 5G ready, with 1200 planned by March 2020 in its push for a 5G home broadband service that offers peak speeds of 295Mbps.
