Joondalup Health Campus private maternity service boosted by four new obstetricians after high-profile exits

Four new obstetricians are set to join the private maternity service team at Joondalup Health Campus following the departure of two senior high-profile doctors earlier this year. Dr Gregg Eloundou, Dr Mathias Epee and Dr Mahmoud Zidan are now accepting referrals, while Dr Jade Hollingworth is expected to commence practice later this year. The recruitment drive marks a transition period for the hospital’s private maternity service, as the new specialists begin to step into the roles held by senior obstetricians Dr Kym Jones and Dr Nicola English, who made the decision to leave for a rival private hospital earlier this year. The cohort is all accredited to provide private gynaecology and obstetric services, with two also consulting as fertility specialists, which Ramsay said will enable streamlined care for patients from pre-conception through to delivery of their baby and beyond. They will join veteran Ramsay Private obstetricians Dr Mike Kamara and Dr Arvind Menon as part of the Joondalup Obstetrics and Gynaecology Group. Ramsay Private general manager Steve Cohen-Jones said the latest appointments would ensure the hospital can continue to provide continuity of care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as access to multidisciplinary care for complex cases and a diverse range of sub-specialty expertise. “We are thrilled to be welcoming these additional obstetricians to the wonderful team at Ramsay Private as part of our commitment to providing maternity services for the local community in Joondalup and surrounding areas,” Mr Cohen-Jones said. “Having a baby is a deeply personal journey for expectant couples, and for those who choose obstetric-led care, it’s essential that they feel a strong connection with their clinician, which is why choice is so important.” Last year, it was reported by The West that the loss of the two senior obstetricians posed a threat to the financial viability of JHC’s private maternity offering. It is believed that about 700 baby deliveries each year are needed for the hospital’s private service to remain profitable. Rising operating costs have already led to the closure of private maternity units at St John of God Mt Lawley and Bunbury, and Ramsay’s Glengarry hospital, leaving Joondalup as one of the last private options for families in the northern suburbs. In 2024–25, Joondalup Health Campus recorded more than 2800 births across both public and private services, according to its 2025 annual report, slightly down from more than 2900 in 2023–24. Despite the dip in births, Mr Cohen-Jones said the hospital was focused on maintaining high standards across its maternity services and that it was essential private maternity costs remained reasonable for patients. “At Ramsay Private, the three pillars of excellence for maternity care are safety, choice and value, and we strive for continuous improvement in each,” he said. “Safety, for mum and baby, must always be our first priority, and our experienced obstetricians are supported by a large workforce of employed anaesthetists, paediatricians and midwives. “Patients benefit from no out-of-pocket costs for consultant anaesthetic and paediatric services as part of their private maternity journey, saving them a significant expense compared to other private birthing facilities.” The private maternity service at the hospital now includes on-demand a la carte dining for patients and their partners, who are able to stay in double rooms.
